In MRCP v1 (see RFC 4463) session establishment was managed by RTSP and SIP but it seems like in MRCP v2 (which exists as a draft) RTSP is no longer recommended.
Probably MRCP v2 compliant applications will be required to support both RTSP and SIP for session management.
